Trip to Hugh Lane

30th Sep 2025

This term, we enjoyed a wonderful visit to the Hugh Lane Gallery.

The trip felt extra special as it was our very first time travelling by train. Excitement was high from the moment we set off, and with the sun shining, we couldn’t have asked for a better day.

Our short journey through the city was packed with sights to enjoy. We gazed up at the Spire, admired the view of Croatia through the Portal, and took a peaceful break at the Garden of Remembrance, where we shared a snack in the sunshine. We also completed a treasure hunt in the Garden which was really fun!

At the gallery, we took part in a VTS (Visual Thinking Strategies) session. This approach encourages children to explore art through open discussion, active listening, and critical thinking. The class loved it—especially as every idea and observation was valued, with no “right” or “wrong” answers.

We explored several fascinating works, including a piece by Ailbhe Ní Bhriain, the world-famous studio of Francis Bacon, and the intricate stained glass of Harry Clarke. The children were captivated, sharing thoughtful observations and lively ideas. The atmosphere was alive with curiosity and creativity.

It was a day filled with discovery, laughter, and inspiration. We’re already excited for the next adventure
