November was a busy month for 6th class both in and out of the classroom after our week off for midterm.
We started our cycling workshops with Active Ireland, teaching safe cycling and bike skills.
We competed in two of the Concern Primary School debates. Congratulations to Miles and Tom who represented our class and put in great performances as we opposed the motions of "social media should be banned for under 16's" and "weekends should be three days long".
We had coaching sessions in both rugby and soccer as well as some of the class competing in our lunchtime basketball league.
Last week we celebrated Friendship Week. We did buddy reading with 2nd class, had a whole school assembly and participated in a whole school art project which will represent each child in our school.
The highlight of the month was our very informative tour to Glasnevin Cemetery and the Botanical Gardens. Despite the cold, it was a very fun and educational day where the children learned loads about Irish history.
In class we got to do some creative writing in English as well as finishing our first novel of the year, "I am David", which ties in with our history lessons on World War 2. We also took a closer look at some of the people we learned about on our tour by using the Chromebooks to research and complete a slideshow on Éamon de Valera, Michael Collins, Countess Markievics and Daniel O'Connell. Geography focused on physical landscapes as we looked how certain landscapes are formed such as mountains and The Burren. We continue to practice our written and oral Irish and covered topics such as factors, multiplication and division in maths.
The class showed their creative talents in art again as they produced a slab relief clay tile which they painted with acrylic paint and worked with oil and chalk pastels in art, exploring shadows and shading.
