Sinéad’s 4th Class: Hugh Lane Gallery

17th Sep 2025

This week, Fourth and Fifth Class had the chance to visit Hugh Lane Gallery. What lucky ducks!

This trip was extra special because it was our first time traveling by train. The excitement was sky high from the moment we set off. With the sun shining down, we couldn’t have asked for better weather.

Our short journey through the city was full of fun sights. All eyes were looking up at the Spire, we admired the view of New York through the Portal and took a relaxing break at the Garden of Remembrance where we enjoyed a bite to eat in the sunshine.

Once we arrived at the gallery, we took part in our VTS session. Visual Thinking Strategies is a teaching method that encourages us to explore art through discussion, active listening and critical thinking. The children love it as there are no right or wrong answers!

We viewed and discussed several fascinating works of art, including a piece by Ailbhe Ní Bhriain, the famous studio of Francis Bacon and some incredibly detailed stained glass by Harry Clarke. The children were completely engaged and everyone had something to say. It was amazing to hear so many thoughtful opinions. The atmosphere was full of curiosity and creativity.

The day was filled with learning, laughter and lots of inspiration. We’re already looking forward to our next adventure!
