February 6th class Tom
5th Mar 2026
6th class got stuck in to loads this month both in our classroom and around the school. Being the oldest class in the school they got to help out with many events and helped the younger classes too.
Many of the class helped out after school with our junior infants open evening, helped teach first class how to use the chromebooks and assisted with the PTA bake sale. Some other events included school photos, participating in the final Concern schools debate, entrance exams for Skerries CC and Bremore, making posters for Skerries AC 10km race and taking part in our ongoing lunchtime soccer league. On pancake Tuesday 6th class got to take a break from our classwork and enjoy some pancakes.
We learned about the pros and cons of AI for Safer Internet Day, had football coaching with Skerries Town FC and Laoise our first class teacher led the class through a pilates class.
February was a busy month preparing for Science Blast as we worked on our project "what flavour food do birds prefer?". In history we looked at the troubles in Northern Ireland. We found this topic very interesting and had some great discussions in class.
We focused on decimals and coordinates in maths and worked through our SPHE programme. For art we made a collaborative piece of art, painted with acrylic paint on canvas with a Valentine's theme as well as making a piece of art to show their personalities and interests.
The highlight of the month was Culture Week where we focused on Argentina. We learned about it's history, geography and culture. 5th and 6th classes took part in a quiz on Wednesday about different cultures from around the world. The best part of the week was definitely the food fest we held on the Friday where we enjoyed food from Argentina and from the different nationalities represented in our class.
