Blaithin's 6th class Spring Term
February was an exciting month as we prepared for Science Blast. The children worked incredibly hard investigating the best shock absorber for a dropped object. Using eggs wrapped in different materials, they carried out a series of experiments from varying heights. After lots of testing, polystyrene proved to be the only material that successfully protected the egg when dropped from the roof!
The children did a fantastic job and were very proud to present their project at Science Blast in the RDS. The judge was highly impressed with their teamwork, collaboration, and the thoughtful way they considered future uses for their findings. We even had a moment of sporting success, as Ciking took to the stage and scored a brilliant goal!
We celebrated World Book Day, dressing up as characters from books and sharing some of our favourite authors with each other.
Culture Week was another highlight. We explored the Philippines, which led to a wonderful whole-class project. Vera also visited to teach us about Russia through an engaging presentation and quiz—along with some delicious Russian pastries and drinks, which were a big hit! During our food festival, we sampled foods from around the world and even made our own Filipino Halo-Halo desserts. We also took part in a fun Culture Week quiz.
Bhí Seachtain na Gaeilge ar fheabhas. We had a Céilí with 1st Class, participated in a flag-raising ceremony, and enjoyed a very interesting Q&A session with Paul from the Irish Defence Forces.
We were delighted to welcome visitors from a secondary school in France. They shared information about their country, and in return, we taught them about Ireland, Maths, and GAA. A special well done to Lily, Lucy, Amelia, Leila, and Ella, who created excellent PowerPoints to present.
Although February and March brought plenty of wet weather, we’re delighted to be getting outside more as the weather improves.
Ciking impressed us all by testing his keepy-uppy skills and reaching an incredible 2,830 without dropping the ball!
We have nearly finished our weekly Life Skills sessions with Sophie. The children have learnt lots of important strategies to bring into their teenage years.
We are looking forward to our upcoming show and have been busy practicing for it.
Easter Holidays are just around the corner.
