March 6th class Tom

2nd Jun 2026
March started off with great excitement as we went to Science Blast in the RDS to present our experiment. 6th class were working hard for weeks researching, carrying out the experiment, creating our displays and finding our results in preparation for the day. Our experiment "What flavour food do birds prefer?" impressed the judges and we were awarded a trophy for all our hard work. 6th class had great fun on the day working at our stand, exploring the other experiments on display and taking part in some of the activities there. Noa from our class even got to go up on stage to take part in the "science of football" demonstration and achieved the strongest penalty kick.

We had many events in March, such as World Book Day. To mark the occasion there was an honesty book fair in the halla.

Seachtain na Gaeilge is an annual event where we celebrated all things Irish and made an extra effort with Gaeilge. We had a flag raising ceremony by a member of the army where we all sang Amhráin na bhFian. We were treated to some Irish music by pupils in Skerries Community College featuring some of our past pupils and there was a céilí in the halla. In class we focused more on speaking the language. Seachtain iontach a bhí ann.

We had a visit from some French exchange students where we showed them some Irish traditions and sports. There was an international soccer and football match played by sixth class and our French visitors.

Our art lessons followed an Irish theme as we learned how to draw Irish knots and decorative Celtic writing.

In history, we learned about famous women in history and used the Chromebooks to make projects on a famous woman of their choice.
One of the more exciting moments was when 6th class received their personal hoodies with class of 2026 and their names printed on them.

In sporting events, we had GAA, rugby and soccer coaching. Some of the class also represented our school in tennis, athletics and soccer matches. Well done to all.
