April 6th class Tom

2nd Jun 2026
April was a short but busy month for 6th class in school. We returned well rested from the Spring break ready for our final term in primary school.
We started our life skills programmed with Sophie. This is a series of SPHE workshops to help prepare the children for secondary school as they enter their teenage years.

In Learn Together and Geography we learned about the topics of deforestation and migration. These led to some very interesting classroom discussions.

In English we worked on persuasive writing and continued to read the novel 'Holes'. In maths we focused on practical topics such as percentage profit and loss and also worked on algebra.

6th class made some fantastic artwork this month as we learned how to make agamographs, where there are two pictures in one depending on the angle you look at it from.

Some extra events on were athletics races in Newbridge House, soccer matches for both our soccer teams and tennis matches.

We finished off April with a busy Active Week. 6th class got to experience badminton, table tennis, running, hurling, soccer and pilates. The highlight was taking part in a hockey blitz in the Community Centre where the boys team got all the way to the final only to lose out on penalties. The winners of the lunchtime basketball league played the teachers in a game cheered on by the senior classes. We finished off Active Week where Conor led the whole school in a workout to get everyone moving.

The most important event for 6th class was hosting a bake sale to help raise funds for some upcoming events. We made some rice krispie buns and chocolate biscuit cake in class and on the day everyone took turns working at the bake sale. This was organized and ran by 6th class and was a huge success. Thanks to everyone who bought or made something to be sold on the day.
