18 October 2013 ~ Comments Off on New Arrangements for Yard Times

New Arrangements for Yard Times

Parents and Children

You won’t catch me!

We’re bringing in a few changes with break-time at our school starting next Monday 21st October. We have found that there have been a few accidents with children bumping into each other during yard. This happens mostly when children are playing running games. We don’t want to ban running as we think it is good for children to run around and have some fun with their friends – especially if they are sitting down working hard for a lot of the day. So, we have decided to make use of the soft-surfaced play area for all Junior Infants. This area is really for our special needs unit, Seolta, which will open in January. However, we can use it for other children also. Therefore, from Monday next all children from Dee’s and Louise’s classes will have both their short morning break and, later, their main break in the soft-surfaced yard. This will mean that the junior yard is now free for Jenny’s and Caroline’s classes. Thank you to all the teachers who agreed to give up more time to supervise these breaks. We hope all children enjoy having that bit more space and look forward to seeing plenty of safe good fun during break-times.

19 September 2013 ~ Comments Off on School Self Evaluation Report

School Self Evaluation Report

Dear Parents and Children,

We are happy to be able to share with all the findings of our school self evaluation last year. Parents and children took part in answering questions on Literacy and Numeracy and the findings are summarised and presented on our website here. Just click on the tab ‘Policies and Reports’. Soon we will publish our ‘School Improvement Plan’ which focuses on numeracy and uses the information gathered in our report to plan how to teach and learn in this area at our school. Please have a look at the report and see how parents and children think about pupils’ learning in numeracy and literacy and how we go about developing skills and competencies in these important areas. Thank you to all who took part in our information gathering last year. It was really useful.

13 September 2013 ~ Comments Off on Hand Towels

Hand Towels

Dear Parents, as part of  the green school initiative we are asking parents to provide their children with a small handtowel in a bag with their name on it. The reason for this is that we are trying to cut down on our paper waste and usage and it was a scheme that worked well for the school last year also. We do not expect parents to go go out and buy these items, but just provide a facecloth or handtowel in a zip lock freezer bag or old toilet bag with their child’s name on it from your home. We also would like to remind parents that it is good practice to remove the towel on Friday’s to wash and replace for the following week. Thank you for your co-operation again.  Tomás

Car Park Update

The car park in front of the school is closed for the next few weeks, so we really appreciate that everyone is not parking in front of the gates. We have been informed that we should have the keys to the new building on 7th of June which we are very excited about. Thanks again for your co-operation and we will keep you updated on the progress of the building works.
