Sinéad's Class: Cultural Week
9th Feb 2024
For cultural week we chose to learn about South Africa. We were so lucky to have a special visitor come to our class. Julie gave the children a wonderful presentation about South Africa. She taught them about going on safari, the tasty traditional foods and the melting pot of cultures, giving it the nickname "Rainbow Nation".
Our project focused on Nelson Mandela. The children were fascinated with how brave he was. They learned what it means to be a civil rights activist and how important it is to stand up for what is right, even if people are opposed to it. We made our own Nobel Peace Prize medals for him. The children made their designs on paper and traced them on top of tinfoil to create an engraved effect.
We couldn't forget about Lunar New Year. As it is the year of the dragon, the children were busy creating close ups of a dragons eye. They learned about blending colours to elevate their pencil drawings. I think you'll agree that they're amazing!
